International Conference Management is a core competency of HLA. HLA’s President/CEO, Harlan Lee, was a career Foreign Service Officer and served as Executive Director of the Protocol Bureau at the State Department. As Assistant Chief of Protocol he managed and directed support for many international events hosted by the United States. Harlan Lee served as protocol advisor to the Director of the G-8 Summit hosted by the US in Denver, taught protocol at the Foreign Service Institute, conducted protocol training sessions, and served as chairman of the international protocol association forums in 2013 and 2014. He was the recipient of the Ann Beard Board of Directors Achievement Award in 2015 for his ongoing contributions to Protocol Diplomacy International – Protocol Officers Association.
